McGregor Coxall has been appointed with lead consultant Steensen Varming to deliver the creative lighting strategy for Aberdeen Council, Scotland. 'Aberdeen in Colour' aims to raise the city’s profile by lighting its unique architecture and streetscape. The project will also improve way-finding and enhance cultural experiences while boosting night activity and security around the CBD. Aberdeen has a varied program of high profile public events and the team will work closely with stakeholders to maximise opportunities such as ensuring the project links with the ‘Aberdeen 365’ program. McGregor Coxall will provide design guidance on the overall public realm strategy to help ensure the hierarchy of the proposed lighting strategy is logically integrated with the public domain. McGregor Coxall will also provide hands on support for the stakeholder and community consultation sessions. Following community consultation, concept design is expected to be completed in early 2018. The subsequent report will include costings and will then be presented to councillors for approval. Steensen Varming have delivered high-profile Lighting Masterplans and Creative Lighting Projects for cities and significant sites across the world including Harvard University (Dumbarton Oaks campus) in the United States, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the City of Sydney Lighting Design Code, developed with McGregor Coxall in 2013.
