Byron Bay Town Centre Masterplan News / New Project / 26.11.2014

The highly anticipated Byron Bay Town Centre Masterplan project is officially underway. Earlier this year, Byron Shire Council called for proposals to transform the popular New South Wales coastal town situated on the most easterly point of Australia. Attracting submissions from over fifty of Australia’s leading Urban Design firms, McGregor Coxall curated the winning multi-disciplinary team to balance national knowledge and experience, local emerging practices and industry experts. Selecting to collaborate with local Byron Bay architecture practice SPACE Studio and placemaking firm People Place and Partnership, these key practices are the heart of the team to serve and support Byron Bay’s unique culture, environment and community.

Other firms in the multi-disciplinary team include Urban Interactive Studio, Hill PDA, GTA Consultants, Royal Haskoning DHV and Alluvium Consulting. The community engagement events kicked off in October with the ‘Business Conversation Series’, ‘Bay Lane Community Open Day’ and the ‘Byron Bay Farmers Market’. These initiating events gave the community a chance to meet the team and discuss ideas. The online community tool ‘Byron Bay Our Plan’ has also been launched to provide information and encourage participation. To learn more go to: www.byronbayourplan.com.au. The Byron Bay Town Centre Master Plan is expected to be complete by November 2015.
