McGregor Coxall, PTW Architects and Collins and Turner have been selected as competition winners for the former Cumberland Newspapers headquarters, located at 142 Macquarie Street, Parramatta. Adjacent to the river foreshore and surrounded by several significant heritage sites the winning proposal features three mixed-use towers; a 60-storey residential tower and 25-level building by PTW, and a 35-storey tower by Collins and Turner. The development will comprise various civic amenities such as retail and restaurant with 6,00 sqm public plaza and streetscape design by McGregor Coxall. A key design element of the scheme was the creation of a strong east-west link, allowing pedestrians to walk directly through the site to the public reserve, while allowing the proposed hotel to activate the plaza directly.
