McGregor Coxall was engaged by Remorne Pty Ltd to undertake a landscape design for Oakridge winery in Coldstream, Victoria. The intention of the design is to play on the geometry of the surrounding agricultural landscape and natural surrounds. The building is a contrasting modern structure which provides numerous spaces and pockets for people to relax, taste wine and delicious food. There are a series of positive and negative volumes through which visitors meander, experiencing a variety of views across the vineyards and to the hills beyond. The design includes the entry experience from Maroondah Highway, the apron that surrounds the restaurant and cellar door, a series of courtyards for dining and light recreation and a functional kitchen garden for visitors to meander through and understand the seasonality of the growth, as well as create fresh produce for the kitchens to use.
