New Rail Station for Melbourne

McGregor Coxall collaborated with Genton Architecture to win the Victorian Government design competition for the $63 million transformation of Frankston Station. The team provided Landscape Architecture services for the final stage of the competition which will renew and regenerate the area. The proposed ‘beach’ concept will transform the space to create a more prominent sense of arrival whilst integrating the station upgrade works into Frankston’s wider public domain. The station forecourt will feature bespoke paving, integrated gardens and tropical planting palettes suitable to a waterfront town. Construction of the new station will begin later this year and will include a new bus interchange, wider footpaths, fresh landscaping, and road improvements to reduce congestion. McGregor Coxall Melbourne Director Christian Borchert said, “The jury complemented the sensitive use of materials and the relationship between landscape and architecture which supports the notion of a coastal city setting. We hope that the public space can become a game changer in how both, visitors and residents will perceive the city and its relationship to the waterfront. We are very much looking forward to collaborating with the team on the implementation phase of the project.”
