SCIENCE PARK WATERSCAPES News / New Project / 28.05.2018

Sydney Science Park is a new 280 ha development in Western Sydney, approximately 5km upstream of Badgery Creek Airport. The site will become a flagship location for the CSIRO who are establishing their first urban living lab in NSW. The site, being developed by Celestino is set to become an international icon and Australia's epicenter of research and development. To reflect this, every aspect of the park is being designed to reflect the innovation ethos. McGregor Coxall have been engaged to develop an international best practice water strategy for the whole site incorporating drainage, water quality, water harvesting, reuse as well as developing the concept design of 80 hectares of riparian and open space areas. Our water strategy uses intelligent design to integrate with the landscape and topography of the site, promoting interaction with water by bringing it to the surface and using it as a mechanism for urban cooling, wayfinding and passive landscape irrigation. The solution challenges conventional thinking around urban water which is to pipe it underground and send it downstream and thus combats major issues faced by Western Sydney developments including urban heat island effects and dry landscapes.
