White Bay Power Station Urban Design Framework

Terroir Pty Ltd / Rozelle , Australia

The White Bay Power Station Urban Design Framework (UDF) included the preparation of 3 reference schemes and the subsequent assessment of RFP submissions from developers bidding to acquire the site. The precinct is the first project in the multi billion dollar renewal of the Bays district on Sydney harbour.  The team worked closely with the client and design partners Terroir to develop a coherent reference design that would be attractive to the technology sector and will deliver a world class sustainable incubator hub for knowledge industries.

The design parameters also preserve the rich heritage of the Power Station whilst promoting community access to the site for recreation. Views and access to heritage elements and public space have been established as minimum requirements that every proponent must meet alongside a series of 10 Advisory Criteria that set guidelines for design excellence and act as a tool for assessing the proposals.
