Two Design Excellence awards for McGregor Coxall at 2024 Good Design Awards

Parramatta Aquatic Centre and Campbelltown Blue Green Grid Plan recognised for excellence in design and innovation.

 

McGregor Coxall has been recognised at Australia’s International Good Design Awards, with two Sydney projects collecting awards at this year’s Awards Ceremony celebrating the transformative impact of design.

This year celebrated the impact of design on driving the transition to a more sustainable, less carbon-intensive future. Showcasing the very best in design, the Good Design Awards highlighted excellence across 12 design disciplines covering more than 32 categories.

Rachel Wye, Managing Director of Good Design Australia, says, “This year’s Awards reflect the profound ripple effects that exceptional design can have on people, place and planet. The projects honoured in these Awards exemplify how thoughtful design can drive meaningful change, not only enhancing user experiences and the way people interact with the world, but also contributing to a more sustainable and more prosperous future.”

Parramatta Aquatic Centre was awarded the Good Design Award in the Architectural Design category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

Designed for the City of Parramatta with Grimshaw and Andrew Burges Architects, the new centre sits seamlessly within Parramatta Park’s lush surrounds, prioritising integration with the landscape.

The Good Design Awards Jury commented, “The Parramatta Aquatic Centre (PAC) seamlessly integrates quality outdoor space with recreational amenities, creating an immersive leisure experience in a park setting. The facility enhances the lush surroundings of Parramatta Park and provides state-of-the-art amenities for the growing and diverse community. The Jury commends the team for their collaborative efforts in designing a unique and breathtaking recreational space. The PAC’s thoughtful design and integration into its environment benefit the surrounding community, exemplifying excellence in public recreational facility design.”

Campbelltown Blue Green Grid Plan was awarded the prestigious Good Design Winner Accolade in the Policy Design category.

Designed in collaboration with JOC Consulting for Campbelltown City Council, the Plan aims to create a sustainable and resilient urban framework to enhance quality of life for residents, preserve natural resources, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

The Jury praised the plan as, “an ambitious framework designed to support sustainable urban growth by integrating nature-based solutions and smart infrastructure. The Jury congratulates the team for their forward-thinking approach, which addresses multiple objectives such as environmental sustainability, community well-being, and climate resilience. The extensive use of green spaces and innovative infrastructure solutions demonstrates a commitment to creating a liveable and adaptable urban environment. This plan serves as a model for balancing growth with ecological and cultural considerations.”
