Taichung Goverment Stage 1

Ricky Liu & Associates / Taichung, Taiwan

The Taichung City Government building was an international design competition won by Webber Hofer Architects from Switzerland housing the main city government functions. McGregor Coxall designed and documented all the site works for the civic precinct consisting of four large garden courts, pedestrian plazas and rooftop gardens.

The main entry plaza is activated by water jets spouting from the paved surface shaded by formal rows of large canopy trees. The matrix of Taiwan cherry trees, lawns, reflection ponds, granite paving and precast concrete seating provides a shady retreat for staff and visitors to escape the surrounding, hot urban environment.
