The modernised Reservoir Station, complete with an elevated rail corridor, stands as a physical and cultural link between the central community’s high streets (Edwardes Street and Broadway) to create an accommodating, intuitive and socially conscious public space. McGregor Coxall’s urban- and landscape-led design addresses increased traffic movement with a safe and legible public realm, creating better connections for pedestrians and cyclists under the rail bridge while supporting opportunities for new open space and future transport improvements.
Maximising the rail corridor’s green space through an indigenous canopy and vegetation palette, the landscape upgrade includes a new civic plaza uniting both sides of the station, new bicycle paths, safer walkways and waiting areas for enhanced pedestrian access. Sustainability initiatives such as rainwater detention, storage and metering, as well as using recycled glass sands within the concrete saw the project achieve a 5 Star GreenStar Design Rating. The project was completed in December 2020.
