The Itaoui Woodland Park is a Master Plan for a natural burial and ash internment cemetery on a 1 hectare site in Bringelly, Western Sydney. The Master Plan proposed market leading design and management strategies for the long term protection of this unique Cumberland Plain Woodland site. Strategies for achieving this include limiting vehicular movement through the site, the location of a walled garden and facility centre on the previously degraded component of the site and the long term retention of the existing surrounding woodland by employing natural burial practices. Buildings within the walled garden will be 6-green star rated and the site will meet its own power and water requirements using renewable energy together with using grey and black water recycling. The design and management proposals for the Itaoui Woodland Park addresses the changing social aspirations towards death care establishing it as a unique template for cemeteries of the future.
