Smiths Beach – Gunyalgup Boodja

Gunyalgup Boodja (Smiths Beach Development), located on Wardandi Country of the Noongar Nation, details a landscape-led, eco-tourism destination that channels the local indigenous spirit, leveraging the region’s iconic coastline, national park, and endemic ecology to create an authentic experience with that lives up to its namesake’s translation: a place of rest on Country. Working in close collaboration with local Council and indigenous stakeholders, a comprehensive site structure weaves vegetation-bound accommodation with traditional cultural elements and the iconic beachfront through a series of nature-embedded trails. Centred around the new headquarters for the 123km Cape to Cape Walk Track, the approach features a natural heritage-driven design that responds to the site’s unique vegetation, geological and topographic condition. Built form for the tourism hub and park amenity uses local materials to ensure the harmonious integration of aesthetic, functionality, and landscape.
