Macquarie St Precinct Revitalisation

Government Property NSW / City of Sydney, Australia

McGregor Coxall was commissioned in November 2015 to lead a multi-disciplinary team to undertake a Precinct Concept Masterplan of the Macquarie Street Precinct located in the heart of the Sydney CBD. This study aims to establish a framework and over arching vision to unlock a hidden gem and create new linkages between Hyde Park, the Domain, The Royal Botanic Gardens and the CBD tying the site into the wider ‘cultural ribbon’ that spans the Sydney CBD.

As such, the project becomes a significant element in a series of major city making endeavours currently underway in and around Sydney backed by the NSW state government. The key components in the project delivery are: connecting the major open spaces surrounding the site, consolidating the public realm to reconnect and activate public areas within the precinct and enhancing uses of the heritage fabric and buildings to best suit the stakeholders and the public. The project establishes a framework from which the precinct can become a continuously activated cultural and civic place where people can meander, inhabit and interact.
