Parramatta Aquatic Centre makes a splash on the world stage

The already highly awarded and widely recognised Parramatta Aquatic Centre is now receiving global recognition, having been shortlisted in two global award programs.

Domestically recognised this year at the NSW AIA Architecture Awards with the prestigious Sulman Award for public architecture and the urban design category award, the project was since commended at the Holdmark Innovation Award, presented at the Powerhouse Museum during Sydney Design Week, 2024 and the Good Design Award in the Architectural Design category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

On the world stage, it has been shortlisted in the Dezeen health and well-being project category. Dezeen, one of the world’s leading design media platforms, shortlisted only 82 projects of 4000 entered globally. Parramatta Aquatic Centre will also be competing on the world’s stage at the World Architecture Festival held in Singapore on the 6th of November, being a finalist in two categories: completed buildings sport and the use of natural light. Both award programs will be announced this November.

Parramatta Aquatic Centre was completed in 2023 and unveiled by Australian most decorated swimmer Emma McKeon, saying  “This world-class facility will support aspiring Paramatta swimmers, from their very first lap to the excitement of big swimming meets and beyond.”

When it opened, the City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Sameer Pandey said PAC was not just a pool but a place for the whole community to exercise, unwind, and relax. As it turned one in September 2024, PAC was on track to see 1 million visitors.

Parramatta Aquatic Centre was designed by Andrew Burges Architects, Grimshaw Architects, and McGregor Coxall and was the result of an international design excellence competition.
