Bute Street

Cardiff Council / Cardiff, UK

Cardiff Council, in collaboration with McGregor Coxall, is embarking on an ambitious project to breathe new life into the heart of Cardiff through the Bute Street Revival initiative. Recognising the potential of Bute Street’s 1km historical stretch, our vision is to metamorphose this vehicular pathway into a bustling community spine.

The project aims to pivot away from traditional urban design and establish a canvas that champions socio-cultural expression. Residents and visitors alike will experience a transformed streetscape that seamlessly integrates pocket businesses, expansive public art displays, and innovative seating arrangements.

A key feature of the revival will be a strong emphasis on urban greening, introducing green pockets and living infrastructure that not only enhance the city’s beauty but also its environmental resilience. Furthermore, playful elements will be sprinkled throughout, inviting children and adults to interact, engage, and rediscover the joy of community.

The Bute Street Revival is not just an infrastructural enhancement; it’s a movement toward a more inclusive, expressive, and sustainable urban future for Cardiff.

A 3D-rendered scene depicts a small section of a paved road with a sidewalk. The sidewalk runs alongside a wall labeled "STRYDBUTE," reminiscent of Bute Street. Several people walk along the sidewalk, and three tall, leafy trees are planted along the wall.
A modern, urban architectural rendering features a street-level building on Bute Street with a partially green rooftop and solar panels, flanked by two trees. The ground-level entrance has colorful, geometric pavement markings, including yellow and black zebra stripes. Pedestrians walk nearby.
