Triple Accolades for outstanding design and innovation.

McGregor Coxall has been recognised for excellence in design and innovation at Australia’s International Good Design Awards. Three Sydney projects collected awards at this year’s Awards Ceremony last Friday 8 September, The Drying Green, Art Gallery NSW’s Sydney Modern, and the Biourbanism book, ‘Biourbanism :: Cities as Nature’, written by Adrian McGregor.

Showcasing the very best in design, the Good Design Awards honour diverse projects across 11 design disciplines covering more than 35 categories. These awards not only celebrate creativity and innovation within design, but also acknowledge the profound impact that a design-led approach can have on social and environmental outcomes.

Dr. Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia, and Chair of the Australian Good Design Awards says:

“Some of the Award-winning projects from this year’s Good Design Awards are truly ground-breaking. There are so many inspiring impact-led projects this year that have embraced the power of design as a problem-solving tool – their design stories deserve to be recognised and celebrated at the highest level. We are proud to continue the legacy of celebrating design, and designers making a positive impact on our world. The Good Design Awards showcase what true design excellence looks like, to inspire others to greatness – that’s exactly what these Awards are about.”

McGregor Coxall is honoured to have been recognised alongside such high-quality, international projects. We congratulate all fellow winners and entrants for another year of exceptional design.

Art Gallery NSW: Sydney Modern was awarded the Good Design Award Gold Winner Accolade in the Architectural Design category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.A unique experience of art, architecture and landscape for everyone to enjoy, where interwoven gardens fit sensitively into the rocky harborside landscape of Gadigal Country, both increasing the site’s biodiversity and bolstering Sydney’s Cultural Ribbon.

The Good Design Awards Jury commented, “The Art Gallery of NSW’s Sydney Modern Project expansion is a significant and complex project that deserves to be commended. The landscape design complements and enhances the building’s architecture, wonderfully integrating landscape architecture with a culturally significant building. A highlight of the project is the research and inclusion of local native flora.”

The Drying Green received the Good Design Award Gold Winner Accolade in the Architectural Design category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation. As the world’s first ecological engine, the innovative urban wetland harnesses green-and-blue living infrastructure within a 6,400m2 urban park. Located at the heart of Green Square’s urban regeneration zone – it’s the centrepiece of a network of new public green spaces servicing the growing community.

“This is a fantastic sustainability initiative. The reinstating of a wetland and polishing of urban stormwater runoff is an exemplar on how urban green spaces can contribute positively to the environment. While it has only been recently established, ongoing data collection of the performance of the Green would be useful to inform future designs,” stated the Jury.

‘Biourbanism :: Cities as Nature’ was recognised with the Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the Design Research category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

‘Biourbanism :: Cities as Nature’ written by Adrian McGregor, an Adjunct Professor at the University of Canberra and Founder and Chief Design Officer at McGregor Coxall, is a rallying cry for cities to adopt intelligent sustainable design that promotes decarbonization and resilience to the climate and economic challenges posed by global warming.

The Jury remarked, “this book proposes an engaging and highly relevant approach to sustainable design in cities. The Resilience Action Plan displays a focus on accountability that we expect to inspire future designers tackling climate challenges. Congratulations on this impactful way of presenting your strategic research.”

Highlighting the dedication talent of our passionate team of designers, these prestigious awards serve as a testament to McGregor Coxall’s commitment towards shaping a more resilient and prosperous world through innovative and sustainable design.
