Robyn holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Sustainable Development – Social Inclusion from Monash University, also holding degrees in Master of International and Community Development from Deakin University, Master of Disaster, Design and Development, and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, both from RMIT. She is committed to amplifying the voices of marginalised groups in urban planning processes in communities facing hardship, particularly after disasters or conflict and believes that these communities develop sustainable systems that can be used to further city planning approaches. Robyn has an extensive background in local government, state government, consultancy, academia and as a practitioner in private practice in the areas of urban resilience, disaster risk reduction, community participation and livelihoods, informal settlement revitalisation, and reconstruction after disaster. With extensive experience working throughout Asia, the Pacific region, Europe, South America, Africa and the Middle East, Robyn’s research and work has had a particular focus on children’s participation, driven by the belief that focusing on children and elevating their voices is critical for developing the radical and innovative action needed to achieve a sustainable, equitable and just planet.
