164 Station Street
Servicing the largest residential development in Penrith and housing over 2,000 units the design for Station street public domain proposes an innovative and visionary concept to tackle urban heat. On hot days, outdoor spaces become uninhabitable and the urban heat island effect can cause serious public health impacts. The Landscape Architecture and integrated Water Strategy optimises community comfort through enhanced heat mitigation and plays a critical role in cooling via evaporation and evapo-transpiration, driving a range of interconnected heat mitigation systems that cool surfaces across the site. The public domain was programmed to meet the needs of the whole community, a diverse landscape that caters to a wide range of activities such as yoga sessions, dog-walking, football matches, barbecues and gathering facilities. The richness of the spatial network that allows these activities are reinforced by an equally rich, distinct and experiential connectivity nodes. Smart Landscape design, informed by science reduces demand on mains water by over 80%, stormwater runoff by 50% and wastewater discharge by 80%.
