McGregor Coxall worked with Ricky Liu and Associates Architects from Taipei and AREP Architects from France to plan and design two new sections of the Taipei Airport to Taipei City MRT. Our scope included elevated track styling, pylon design, landscape corridor design and fifteen station landscape designs. The MRT system brings an opportunity to showcase the best in ecologically sustainable transit and design to Taipei. The rail corridor is the super connector between each station. Threading through the landscape in a sinuous curving form it slides through many types of existing and proposed landscapes and urban forms. The viaduct is the entry gateway to the city for international visitors and was considered as the ‘front door’ to the city. The stations are then the lobby’s for arrival into the city by inbound tourists and returning residents. The pylons and track were designed as ‘organic trees’.
