McGregor Coxall was commissioned by City of Ryde to create a vision for Macquarie Park’s new urban oasis: an activated public park nestled within the vibrant, mixed-use precinct of 45-61 Waterloo Road. Located within walking distance of Macquarie Park Station, the park will become the focal point of the prominent business district – an iconic meeting place that harbours essential cultural, social, and environmental legacies for local commercial and residential communities. Working in close collaboration with Council, our approach details a flexible precinct programme that encourages physical activity, leisure, and relaxation. A central lawn caters for individuals, groups and community events in a space framed by active edges, sloping lawns, seating, a water feature, and amphitheatre. The park’s southern side offers an exclusive setting, adopting level changes and sculpted mounds to create a shaded, nest-like enclosure optimised for family gatherings and events. The planting palette is an extension native vegetation of Macquarie Park and Lane Cove River.
