Victoria’s world-famous Twelve Apostles is ready to welcome millions of visitors to a new experience following the completion of a spectacular viewing platform overlooking the iconic rock formations. The lookout is part of the larger Shipwreck Coast Master Plan by McGregor Coxall
With wide paths and accessible viewing areas, the lookout offers new views of the stunning coastline in Keerray Woorroong Country.
The design featured strong engagement with the Eastern Maar community and resembles two ‘clapsticks’. Colours have been used that reflect Ngayook (Sulphur Crested Cockatoo) and Ponponpoorramook (Red Tailed Black Cockatoo), important totemic species to Eastern Maar peoples.
The lookout has replaced viewing areas no longer suitable for growing visitor numbers, providing a safer and more immersive experience at one of the state’s most visited locations.
Delivered in partnership by Parks Victoria and the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation, the lookout is part of the Victorian government’s $24.5 m AUD investment in the Shipwreck Coast Master Plan.
At the nearby Loch Ard Gorge visitor area, works are underway on another Master Plan project – a new viewing area at ‘The Blowhole’. This new experience will bring visitors up close to the Blowhole – an opening in the land that fills with roaring water from the Southern Ocean when tides and waves are strong.
