In the next 20 years, the Bankstown CBD will see substantial growth and increased demand on its parks, streets and cultural facilities due to the greater amounts of jobs, students and residents. The Paul Keating Park Masterplan presents the opportunity to respond to this future trajectory, focusing on the Civic Precinct, the centrepiece of Bankstown CBD, to revitalise open space offerings whilst also addressing the current challenges of the site.
The masterplan encompasses Paul Keating Park and its local surroundings, providing a cohesive and integrated public domain throughout the Civic Precinct which includes Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre (BLaKC), the Western Sydney University Campus, Civic Tower, Council Chambers, Court House Reserve and a variety of local commerce. Leveraging multi-modal transport facilities including Bankstown Metro Station, the masterplan integrates environmental functionality into an intuitive, collective space that honours its rich history and culture.
