Bath & North East Somerset Council secured funding from Historic England to help regenerate Keynsham Town Centre through the High Street Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) programme. McGregor Coxall was commissioned to lead a multidisciplinary team to create a masterplan vision for Keynsham High Street to provide a toolkit of ideas for future projects and to harness and develop the value of Keynsham’s historic environment to generate economic growth and improve quality of life in the town centre.
The Masterplan Strategy looks to bring together the High Street and Temple Street as one continuous public space by promoting shared materials, coherent street furniture, better pedestrian and cycle surfacing, and reducing street clutter. The proposed placemaking framework has been created to draw out Keynsham High Street’s potential as a connected, creative, pedestrian-friendly, and animated heart to Keynsham and the surroundings. The Masterplan Strategy evolves from this and offers a map for future development of the High Street. It pulls together the six placemaking themes and wayfinding elements to enhance connectivity and vibrancy throughout the area.
