Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan

Originally designed in 1988, the Australian Botanical Gardens at Mount Annan (ABGMA) is Australia’s largest botanic garden. McGregor Coxall were engaged to develop a visionary masterplan and business case to reposition the site as a globally significant destination and important open space asset for the growing Western Parkland City. The overarching vision is to restore Dharawal Country at Mount Annan [Yandel ora], regenerating endangered Cumberland Plain vegetation and providing a glimpse into the ancient landscape. The plan unites a new herbarium and seed bank into a cluster of botanical research, innovation and science facilities. Shaped in the form of a coolamon, a new visitor core activates the site by creating a new lakes precinct connecting the main entrance, amenities and world class biomes. The car-free site utilises an advanced e-mobility, walking and cycling network that connects key entry points. New uses include carbon sequestration, outdoor events space, accommodation, research park, food and beverage outlets, park services and environmental education.
