Located at Victoria Park in Green Square, Zetland, on a 6200m2 site, this project consists of 129 apartments in four separate perimeter block buildings arranged around a large and a small common courtyard. Car parking is kept to the edges of the site under the buildings to maximise deep soil areas for tree planting and for infiltration of storm water. No pits are used in the drainage design and all water flows off pathways into the sand filled biotopes planted with wetland species and grasses. Simple materials consisting of concrete, sandstone, white sand, and timber are combined to furnish the contemporary, intimate spaces. McGregor Coxall custom designed furniture features on the decks adding a splash of colour. All plant materials are Australian native in origin and planting compositions mimic naturally occurring ecosystems.
