Central Station Northern Precinct
McGregor Coxall in association with CHROFI were commissioned to undertake a master plan study for the City of Sydney for one of Sydney’s least known, but important and oldest parks located in front of Central Station. This project’s objective was to undertake a broad urban analysis of the park in it’s current situation and from this work, develop a visionary master plan in order to realise the true potential of this significant open space within the wider city fabric. The master plan proposes opening up the visual and physical connections between Central Station, Eddy Avenue and the park thus establishing it as a true forecourt. It also proposes a relocation of the trams from the east and west elevated viaducts to a public transport hub along Eddy Avenue. The master plan then envisages programmed interventions into these viaducts in order to create vital activation of the park edges and to establish physical connections through the park from Surry Hills to the east and Haymarket to the west.
