Facing Antarctica across the Southern Ocean, the Shipwreck Coast is a spectacular rugged section of Victoria’s south west. Characterized by wind battered limestone cliffs, weathered stacks, national parks and small townships it is a wild but fragile area that has witnessed the disappearance of many sailing vessels. McGregor Coxall were commissioned by a broad government stakeholder client team led by Parks Victoria to prepare a master plan that spans 28 km of the Shipwreck Coast along the Great Ocean Road including the Twelve Apostles, one of Australia’s best known tourist features drawing millions of visitors per year.

Informed by an extensive community consultation process curated through the proprietary McGregor Coxall ‘Your Plan’ web tool alongside community workshops, focus groups, and drop in sessions, the plan has evolved over the past eighteen months into a comprehensive strategy for the future of this precious landscape.

The plan protects and expands the region’s extensive natural and cultural assets whilst providing engaging visitor experiences to support a sustainable tourism industry and the regional economy. The Victorian government has recently committed further funding dedicated to implementation of the plan.
