Bentleigh Eat Street
The City of Glen Eira engaged McGregor Coxall to design a new 'unified public space' incorporating four existing public spaces to create a renowned high-quality destination capable of hosting a range of events and street activities, night and day. The Eat Street project is a key transformation project focussing on the Bentleigh Activity Centre. The public open space will facilitate social interaction and increased utilization through a carefully curated program of events, year-round. Redesign and rejuvenation of the Glen Eira open spaces foster a new sense of place to meet community needs now and into the future and act as a catalyst for community activity and economic development. The design invokes interesting and engaging spaces and spatial sequences that are unified but at the same time provide variety through activated edges and synergies between adjoining land uses. Feature lighting makes the area safer at night and pedestrian connections have been upgraded with a new crossing and pathways proposed. Project design was finalised in April 2021.
