Building upon the dynamics already established in this precinct, the design for the three laneways aims to enhance the public realm to attract smaller retail tenancies to generate a vibrant public street life. We suggest to enhance facilities for entertainment and night time activities, drawing on activation by the adjacent music and cinema venues as well as other larger and well frequented bars and restaurants. The proposal is to generate different activities at different times, serving different interests at daytime such as lunch break out space and in the evening and night such as vibrant and innovative bars. The current high pedestrian numbers during day should be increased. Simultaneously, the current unsafe character of the lanes is to be altered to high quality public realm. The design embraces sustainable principles to generate a public realm of low ecological impact and a healthy microclimate for the public.
