Project Description: This new park, to be known as Millewah Fields, is located on the Murray River in Mildura, Victoria. Its design references the agricultural character of the region. Coupled with a new Cultural Centre, it will form an important tourist destination and place of learning. The design aims to secure new funding made available as part of the National Urban Water and Desalination Plan by meeting key assessment criteria through it’s stormwater harvesting and water recycling initiatives. Proposed rain gardens form a key part of an overall integrated water strategy for the site, serving as the towns storm water catchment filtration system. These will contribute to the improved water quality of the river and reduce contaminated stormwater outflows. There will be five rain garden typologies, each representing a plant community found in one of the five major “Icon Sites” found along Murray River. The park development will be a generator for local employment opportunities and local business revitalisation and will establish a greater interface between the CBD, the Murray River and the greater region.
