Project Description: McGregor Coxall designed the landscape for the Xiamen Hospital in Fujian Province, China. A strong tree planted “ring road”, with a complementary tree planted central swale, which captures site storm water run off, creates the framing and organisational structure for the project. The internal “ring road”, is accessed by a number of perimeter split entry roads between which sculptural detention wetlands sit, forming part of the overall site water strategy system. Within the “ring road”, permeable lawn car parking bays, with separating central planted swales, also capture site storm water. The Southern Island Gardens establish the main entry to the hospital and are a key element in the overall image of the development. These gardens are connected to the building by a “single skin” plaza that allows easy to access multiple pedestrian crossing points. These “southern island gardens” are elevated and provide a simple interface , good amenity and good views of the surrounding water ways while forming an important and aesthetically impressive image for the ‘front door’ of the development.
