Project Description: Located along the Manning River on Pitt Street in Taree the 20ha site has remnant industrial and commercial buildings as well as residential houses. Working with Suters Architects and Prof. Steffen Lehmann, McGregor Coxall prepared a site masterplan. The design philosophy encompasses expression of the remnant cultural heritage of the site through retention of existing trees, reuse of existing heritage buildings and refurbishment of the site into a series of contrasting contemporary precincts. Three precincts, each with a unique character are key to the vision. The western precinct is a mixed use zone with a retail and commercial heart together with residential dwellings. The central precinct is a residential village within scenic existing landscape elements of the creek and the river. The western precinct is a Commercial Marina – the working waterfront. The project will adopt ecologically sustainable design principles including water reuse and the reuse of existing heritage items.
