Project Description: A peaceful place nestled in the landscape of Lake Burley Griffin that recognises the gallant role police play in our communities. Both memorial and place of celebration, it commemorates those that have significantly contributed to upholding the values of Australian society. Designed to function as an intimate reflective space for daily visitors and capable of hosting gatherings for official functions, the memorial will provide a focal point for police at the heart of our nation. At the convergence of the ‘Wall of Memory and the ‘Woven Wall’, is the commemorative plaza, an area for conducting ceremonies. It is a simple and elegant composition backed by a shallow raised reflective pond, flagpole, lawn terraces and contemplative bench also in white limestone. The ceremonial plaza is designed to be flexible with the bench providing a meditative resting place during day to day use and a ceremonial table during official functions.
