Project Description: McGregor Coxall worked with Turner Associates to prepare a masterplan. Located in the Cessnock City Council area in the heart of the Hunter Valley, the site has a picturesque rural setting of gently undulating hills and valleys. The project is envsioned to be a high quality, low-density, tourism and residential development with a 125 room hotel and 416 dwellings over the 420ha site. The scheme preserves and enhance the prevailing landscape qualities and ecologies of the site to establish a framework for the new development. Continuous corridors for recreation, ecology, biodiversity enhancement, agriculture and aesthetics were provided. Heritage conservation considerations are acknowledged and help inform the design responses. The sites’ prior uses as an immigration camp, army training facility and cattle farm, were interpreted.
