Project Description: In December 2001 McGregor Coxall in association with Wiel Arets Architects from the Netherlands and Turner Associates Architects won an international design competition for a new town centre at the core of the Green Square development area in South Sydney. The project proposes new sustainable typologies of living, working and leisure over the existing Green Square railway station. The town centre is the catalyst for the development of an airport linked multi-modal transport hub supporting a lively and diverse series of civic places. Structured about a large continuous public domain surface which is partitioned by three hovering building forms, three main plazas are proposed. The transport, the civic, and the neighbourhood. The project proposes public and private activities such as sports, cinemas, bars, library, education, residential, commercial, showrooms and retail uses.
