Project Description: The 278ha Green Square Redevelopment Area is undergoing rapid transition from industrial/commercial land uses to a mixed use residential region. McGregor Coxall were commissioned by City of Sydney Council as lead consultant to develop a public domain framework together with detailed plans for four precincts in Green Square totalling 54ha. A sustainable design approach based on the three fundamental principles of ESD including environmental; financial, and social parameters was proposed. The plans propose ‘smart street’ design solutions for traffic calming, street network improvement, storm water flood mitigation through dual use open space provision, storm water purification, built form responses, and cycle way planning as well as art and heritage interpretations. The future outcome will respond to the site’s unique hydrology, history and cultural fabric.
